Cash App payments

US payers pay from their Cash App balance in a few taps. Under the hood it is a Bitcoin Lightning payment, settled in seconds.

La documentation développeur est disponible en anglais.

How the payer pays

  1. On the checkout the payer chooses Cash App.
  2. We show a Lightning invoice for the amount due as a QR code, with the amount in sats.
  3. On a computer, the payer opens Cash App on their phone, taps the scan icon (or Bitcoin → Send → Lightning) and scans the code. On a phone, the Open Cash App button opens the app with the invoice filled in.
  4. They confirm in Cash App. The payment arrives within seconds and you receive order.paid.

Cash App converts from the payer's balance; the payer doesn't need to hold bitcoin. Any other Lightning wallet can pay the same invoice, and the checkout says so.

Invoices and expiry

  • The sats amount is fixed when the invoice is created, at the current bitcoin price. You are credited the order's value; the price risk is ours.
  • An invoice is short-lived. If it runs out before the payer pays, the checkout offers Get a new invoice with a fresh quote, as long as the order hasn't expired.
  • Each invoice can be paid once, for the exact amount. There are no partial Lightning payments and no underpaid state for this method.

Limits

  • Per order: from 3 USD to 999 USD (or the equivalent in your currency) unless your account has different limits. Orders outside the range don't offer Cash App; if Cash App is the only method you allow, the API answers 400 amount_too_small.
  • Cash App applies its own limits to each customer's account (for example on bitcoin sends for unverified accounts). If Cash App refuses, the payer can choose another method on the same checkout.
  • Cash App is for payers with a US Cash App account.

Showing Cash App first

If most of your customers use Cash App, list it first: "methods": ["cash_app", "crypto", "card"] on POST /orders shows the methods in that order and preselects Cash App. "methods": ["cash_app"] offers only Cash App.

Refunds

Lightning payments can't be sent back to Cash App. Refunds for Cash App payments are paid in USDT on Tron to a wallet address the payer gives you, or on another network if you pass network. See POST /orders/:id/refunds. Tell your customers this in your refund policy.

Testing

In test mode the invoice is not real and can't be paid with a wallet. Use Simulate payment on the checkout. See testing.
